Remembering Summer

The first day of summer has officially come and gone on the calendar and summer is now winding down.  It’s not over, certainly not in Arizona, but the start of the school year signals “summer’s over” in my book.

The Back to School sales blazing at all the stores since the beginning of July has me in shivers.  Shivers because my daughter is starting kindergarten this year.  *gasp*  I am happy/refuse to believe/stunned by the fact that our little girl is really growing up.  And she is completely unphased by it all.  Absolutely taking all this kindergarten stuff in stride.  I suppose I should be happy about that.  It’s likely only a matter of time before she starts dreading her first day of school.  But for now, she is excited by this new adventure and isn’t that what makes all these “first times” so special?

As a bon voyage gesture to summer, I wanted to remember it with this one photo.  This is my preschooler son and it exhibits what summer is all about for me:  carefree, casual, fun, happy, hot, sweet.  Fast.  And those toes.  I just love little toddly toes.

Summer 2011

Bon voyage, summer!

Bittersweet tribute to the Kindergartner and end of summer.
And, yes it is their fearless and head-on attitude that makes first times more special.
