Pumpkins and Festivals. Everywhere we go, we’re seeing this. Pumpkins and Festivals! That means apple cider, soup, chili, football, pumpkins, candy corn and costumes. It’s Fall!
This past summer Mortimer Family Farms opened their farm gates on the land that was once known as Young’s Farm in Dewey, AZ right before you reach the cool pines of Prescott. So far, we have purchased plants, vegetables and herbs that thrive, and sweet corn that is oh-so-sweet there’s no need for butter. I’m telling you, it’s that good. This was our family corn-picking day:
Mortimer Family Farms has events going on throughout the month of October with its Pumpkin Festival.
October 8th and 9th Agua Fria Festival
October 15th and 16th Mile High Tractor Pull
October 22nd and 23rd Pumpkin Decorating for all ages
October 29th and 30th Costume Competition
Fall games and activities
Farm animal kingdom
Rock Springs pies
Food and craft vendors
Hay rides & music
I know there are locals aplenty who have very fond memories of driving to the farm to pick out their Halloween pumpkin. Even Phoenicians who packed up their cars and their families to make the short drive up north to dig through pumpkins in the cool temperatures – I know because we used to be one of them. Who wants to sweat while wrestling with a pumpkin? Not this mama.
This year I am looking forward to starting this Fall tradition again now that we have a new farm in town to patronize. Pack up and bring your family to the farm this month!
