I wish I could take my family to all of these events, but it is just not humanly possible. I hope that some of these events inspire you to create time for your family and allow your children to explore a little more of nature and our heritage. Enjoy!

Scottsdale Street Fair - Sundays. Scottsdale. This is a great event for families to go to on a weekly basis as there are loads of stuff for kids to do in addition to the shopping, events, farmer’s market, food, and music. It’s free to attend and enjoy.

Apache Jii Day -October 20th. Globe. It’s an all Native American Festival with authentic food, dancers, singers, pottery, and more. It’s a great way to expose your child to other cultures and get out of the heat!

11th Annual Great Pumpkin Festival - October 25-28. Phoenix. Activities include a hayride, pumpkin patch, maze, petting zoo, and carnival games. Admission is included with your Desert Botanical Garden ticket. Fans of the Botanical Garden will enjoy this twist on fall fun.

25th Annual Taste of Greece Food & Dance Festival -October 26-28. Peoria. Greek food, music, dance, imports, games, activities for kids, and more. Fifty percent of the admissions fees will go to West Valley Child Crisis Center. It’s a great way to immerse your family in culture!

Anthem 4th Annual Autum Fest -October 27. Anthem. There is an arts and crafts fair, pumpkin patch, kid zone, train rides, food, chili cook off, and more. It’s a great little festival that we have gone to a couple times over the past couple years. The train rides were the highlight of my son’s day!

Prescott Pumpkin Patch & Carnival -October 27. Prescott. Costume contests for kids and pets, pumpkin patch, cakewalk, and more. $5 admission but is worth it based on inflatables and other games kids love. Great idea to get out of the heat for the day.

Kingman 6th Annual Fall Festival -October 27. Kingman. Costume contests, carnival game booths, pie eating contests, and more. It’s out of the heat and a great way to spend a fall afternoon away from the city.

Boo at the Zoo -October 31. Prescott. Bring your kids to trick or treat at the zoo and visit the notcturnal animals. It’s cooler up there, so it might be a little chilly at night!

Halloween in the Hills -October 31. Fountain Hills. Carnival games, trick or treating, bounce houses and petting zoo are the main attractions. Pets and people will be featured in the costume contests and haunted houses to visit. It’s a unique event with a view of the fountain! It is recommended to show up early as there are a lot of activities.

This is probably the largest consignment event that I am aware of in the northwest valley. It’s like a very big, organized garage sale for kids stuff. Last year, I took my son and I did regret going on the last day of the sale because all of the really cool toys and clothes were already sold or in the process of being sold. My son was upset because he saw a Thomas The Train set and table just as someone else picked it up to buy it. This time I am planning to send my husband during the day on Thursday since I have to work. I am already creating a list of items for him to purchase!

It is literally a mad and crazy place of clothing, toys, car seats, bedding, and other sorts of stuff that you either need or want for your child. If you need to sell some of your stuff, this is the place to do it.

It is September 6-8, 2012 with it being open Thursday and Friday from 9- 6 pm and Saturday from 9-3 pm. It’s located at Mountain Ridge Church right off 67th Ave. I highly recommend that you come earlier rather than later because the selection gets picked over very quickly.

If you wish to consign your items, you should check out the website for their easy process of consigning your extra toys, clothes, etc. It helps your budget stay on track, too!

They do these sales nationally and bi-annually, so if you miss this one there is always another one around the corner. Also, if you don’t live close to this sale there are others on the site for other parts of the valley. The one in Chandler just occurred last week. Have fun!

I have searched all over and gathered all the Fun Runs in Arizona going on this Thanksgiving Week. A few are the weekend before Thanksgiving and a couple are after Thanksgiving.

During the summer, it’s hard to find activities for families that don’t involve a lot of money or are out in the desert heat. Chick-Fil-A has been the best thing to happen to our family. Our son loves their play area and I love the different activities they have during the month. This past Friday was Cow Appreciation Day. Although we had other plans, it is just one of many activities that they do. Last month we went to their Hollywood Night and our son participated in the crafts, drawing and just hanging out listening to the music and getting pictures with the cow! This Friday, July 15th, is 50’s Night. If you dress up, they have specific things for you. Even if you don’t dress up, it is a wonderful family event. Because it is open to everyone, we saw quite a few special needs kids participating with their families. Even if your child is physically challenged, they can still participate in the activities. I highly recommend it as a family night out!

This past Friday, my family went to the All Star Fan Fest at the Convention Center in Phoenix. Having never been to one before, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Our son particularly enjoyed the interactive activities for kids and adults. He was able to throw balls, steal bases, obtain autographs, get pictures with mascots, and hit a real baseball with a real bat! Although it was quite pricey to attend, it was worth the money to attend. Thankfully we had discount tickets. They actually had a lot of activities for all levels of disabilities for children and adults. Our son isn’t physically handicapped, but he doesn’t understand or comprehend some things and he had no issues with accessibility.

There are a couple of great children’s movies coming out as well this summer, Cars and Winnie the Pooh. We are planning to take our son to his first movie. If you bring your child earlier in the day, it is cheaper for you as well and kids tend to do better earlier in the day. There is also the rare cheap movie theatre to catch some of the other kids cartoons on their way to dvd.

Everyone faces a similar problem this time of year: you’ve got to find the perfect Father’s Day gift. You vow that this year will be different and you won’t give in to the temptation to just get him socks or whatever power tool is on sale. I think I have found the solution for our problem! A day of golf on a course that my husband is actually excited to play on!

I found out about a surprisingly good deal on CityDeals for Pueblo El Mirage Golf Course, and thought I’d pass it along. The golf course itself is a quick 30 minute drive outside of downtown Phoenix and is designed by Fuzzy Zoeller, which I guess is some famous golfer—just ask your husband. The part I like about this gift idea is that the price is reasonable, it’s “manly” enough, and it’s something he’d be spending money on anyway. So, I totally recommend CityDeals, not just for great Father’s Day gifts, but for other things you want to save on like restaurants or activities for the kids. At least in this case, they helped me solve my annual Father’s Day dilemma!

By the way, CityDeals is giving Today’s Mama readers a special bonus! When you make a $20 purchase between May 17- May 31, you’ll receive a $5 credit on your purchase! Just use promo code TODAYMAMAAZ (note that it’s one promo per customer).
